The Little Lamp Podcast was founded during the 2022–2023 school year by students in the Digital Media Department at Schurz High School in Chicago. The project began as a student-driven effort to strengthen the sense of community within the school by using one of the most powerful human traditions: storytelling.

 

Inspired by the belief that every person carries a story worth sharing, students created the podcast as a platform to highlight the voices and experiences of people within the Schurz community. Teachers, students, administrators, family members, and community figures were invited to share personal stories, reflections, and journeys that shape who they are.

 

From its earliest episodes, the mission of the Little Lamp Podcast has been simple but meaningful: to help build a healthier, more positive Schurz community through storytelling. Each conversation is guided by thoughtful, open-ended questions that encourage guests to reflect on their lives, challenges, and moments of growth.

 

The name Little Lamp reflects the idea that even a small light can illuminate a path for others. Through each recorded story, the podcast shines a light on the individuality and humanity of the people who make up the Schurz community.

 

What began as a classroom project quickly grew into a meaningful archive of voices and experiences. Each episode contributes to a deeper understanding of one another, reminding listeners that behind every face in the hallway is a story worth hearing.
